Are you traveling with children ?
I find hitting the beaches and packing a lunch are not only fun, but usually cheap entertainment...just don´t forget the sunscreen !

What my husband and I did was purchase a time share that was in foreclosure and took it for every other year to Daytona Beach. That way we don´t pay maintenance fees every year.
I then started an ING savings and they start you with $25. I am putting away a little every week and will have enough to pay for the airfare and groceries. (Timeshares are great because you don´t need to eat out). We are also inviting my sister and brother-in-law to come (they will pay half the fee (so in affect we get to go free.
I am watching deals on line to get my airfare cheap. I´m just waiting until they allow 2009 travel. Does anybody know any great sites for cheap airfares?

Laura,
As soon check www.jetblue.com for cheap airfare. Sadly its still too soon for any prices to be posted after 1/31/09 but you can find really great prices. Remember... "try your best to not check your bags" Carry on is the Way to go!!

Thanks Antoinette...I will keep watching their website. It´s great because they fly out of Boston so that would make it easy.

Laura also check spirit.com. you can sign up for their $9 club and get special fairs all over. I got 7 tickets for $19 each round trip last time I flew with my 6 kids. After taxes and fees it was under $150 for 8 people to fly to Fl and back to NJ. You have to be quick and flexible though. Fares do not last long.

Maurice,
I am not sure where on the east cost you are talking about, but here in NJ we have a lot of state parks that are usually free or very cheep to get into. Their are two in particular, Allair state park and Basto, both are living history parks and my kids love going. Most allow you to BBQ on the grounds and provide table and grills, with you providing the food and charcoal. You can also go camping at most of the state parks which helps with the expense. Camping usually cost under $20 a night. Worried about camping gear? Try asking for some from Freecycle.org. Find a group near you and ask for some camping equipment, you may be surprised at what you get.
