Hi there,
That is sooo good to hear. I have three teenagers. My daughter is 16 and boy oh boy. She´s generally a good kid. I home school them all. She is taking classes online, which makes it a bit easier too. My sons are another story. THey have ADHD and some behavioral issures but nothing i can´t deal with there. Sometimes they just don´t want to do their work. They´d rather play all day. But I´ve changed it up for them to keep it interesting and we go to our library evry two weeks or so too.

My oldest daughter turned 13 this summer. I can´t believe how difficult it is to raise a teenager. I struggle with discipline. I understand she is going through lots of changes and mood swings are inevidable. I find myself wondering when I should let it go, and when I should step in and do something about it. Mostly her attitude gets really bad. I tend to take it personally and I know I need to stop that. She goes from being very nice one minute, to acting like she hates me the next. I want her to enjoy her teen years and not spend them at home grounded all the time. But there are times she is so disrespectful and then she just doesn´t get it when I try to tell her why that isn´t okay. I love my daughter very much and I realize that these years will fly by, just like her baby/toddler/elementary school years. So I don´t want to come down too hard on her, but I don´t want to raise someone who grows up to disrespect authority either. By the way, my 2nd daughter will be 12 next month. Maybe I´ll know a little more the second time around.

Jennifer, I know how you feel. Only difference is I´m a stepmom to a 9 year old and 12 yr old girls. My husband and I both noticed the mood swings this past year from the oldest. I can understand that though because some of us woment get moody around PMS time. My only problem is their the differences in their homes. Home at their moms is very different and no bed time rules, computer rules, etc. Our house is the opposite.... makes it very difficult for us. Any advice from stepmoms??? I used to think parenting was the hardest job... now I´m convinced its being the step parents!!!! Any advice from any stepmoms out there???? Lisa

Thank you for your post. I have a thirteen year old who wants to be older. i am doing my best at encouraging her to have her own personality and to be respectful at the same time. there r just so many gray areas to this.
